About ESAMI:
The Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) is a prestigious Pan-African Regional Management Development Centre. Owned by 10 member governments from the Eastern and Southern African region, ESAMI is dedicated to providing specialized management training, consultancy, and action-oriented research services. The institute plays a critical role in capacity-building across sectors such as policy management, financial management, human resources, energy, IT, health, project management, and more.
With training centres across 10 member states, ESAMI collaborates with governments, international organizations, NGOs, parastatals, and private sector entities to strengthen capacities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Opportunity:
ESAMI is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and experienced corporate leader to take on the role of Director General. The Director General will provide strategic leadership, represent the institution in high-level forums, and ensure the continued excellence and growth of ESAMI’s programs and services. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of leadership and management development across Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and develop a vision, mission, and strategic plan in line with ESAMI’s goals and objectives
- Lead the executive team, driving operational excellence and service delivery
- Represent ESAMI in high-level forums and act as the spokesperson and ambassador for the institute
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, private sector, and international institutions
- Oversee revenue generation initiatives and ensure financial sustainability
- Ensure the effective implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ESAMI’s strategic goals
- Drive organizational performance and growth by strategically positioning ESAMI’s core offerings in executive education, business education, research, and management consultancy
Key Qualifications:
- PhD or Doctorate with a minimum of 10 years of senior management experience
- Proven experience in heading or working with regional or international organizations
- Demonstrated experience in the training or education sector in Africa
- Extensive network of business contacts, including potential funders and partners
- Registered member of a relevant professional body
- Experience in developing and winning consultancy assignments in the last three years
- Must be a national of one of ESAMI’s 10 member states (Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe)
