Ministry Function:
The Nutritionist will support the ministry of Convoy of Hope (COH) by working closely with the Tanzania National Director to identify and address nutrition-related issues within COH's Children's Feeding Initiative (CFI). The role involves assessing nutritional status, implementing nutrition programs, and disseminating social behavior change communication (SBCC) messages to improve the health of mothers, children, and their families in COH Program Centers, surrounding communities, and other identified project sites.
The Nutritionist will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs, providing technical support, and assisting the Tanzania National Director in preparing reports on COH's nutrition initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess nutritional needs of CFI participants and other GP program beneficiaries as requested by the Tanzania National Director.
- Facilitate training sessions on nutrition, health, and WASH-related topics for program leaders, volunteers, and beneficiaries (children and adults).
- Monitor WASH behaviors, including food preparation and service, according to COH CFI standards.
- Collect data from Program Centers and report findings to the Tanzania National Director.
- Advise the Tanzania National Director on necessary WASH improvements in Program Centers and project sites.
- Assist in procuring healthy foods and products for CFI.
- Collaborate with the Tanzania Ministry of Health (MOH) to stay current on national and regional health trends, policies, and initiatives.
- Support partnerships with other NGOs and the Tanzania MOH to enhance CFI program outcomes and nutrition integration across GP programs.
- Conduct research (policy, anthropometry, household surveys, and key informant interviews) and baseline assessments for new and existing Program Centers.
- Participate in planning, implementing, and monitoring health and nutrition components in COH's women's empowerment and agriculture programs.
- Prepare and submit high-quality reports.
- Troubleshoot field challenges as they arise.
- Support other Global Program team activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, or a related field.
- Required Training:
- Nutrition assessment, including anthropometry
- WASH standards
- Social behavior change communication
- Preferred Training/Knowledge:
- Nutrition-sensitive interventions
- Qualitative research
- Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in facilitating nutrition or community health training is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Ability to evaluate and analyze anthropometric data according to established standards (knowledge of Anthro and AnthroPlus is a plus).
- Competence in producing computer-generated reports and data management.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.
- Mobility: Willingness to travel to various Program Centers and project sites across Tanzania.
- Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for the ministry by helping to nurture and develop resources to support and expand COH programs.
- Representation: Ability to represent Convoy of Hope and its mission positively to external stakeholders.
